Support is conditional. Establish which current programme applies and how its application sequence affects your project.
Go to the current programme
KfW maintains a page for current heating-support information and links to its products, including support for private residential owners. Use that current page as your starting point. Programme terms can change; an earlier quotation is not confirmation of today’s eligibility.
Check your own circumstances
Confirm the ownership arrangement, building, proposed equipment and any evidence required for additional support. Ask the adviser or installer to identify the applicable product and documents. Treat the amount as unconfirmed until the relevant requirements and approval are satisfied.
Coordinate timing and the contract
Check the required sequence for the application, supply contract and starting work directly in the product guidance. Ask what contract wording and supporting documents are needed. Keep a budget that works before an expected payment arrives rather than treating the grant as cash already received.
Create a funding file before comparing net prices
Record the applicant, property, planned work, programme reference and the evidence requested by the current product information. Keep a dated copy of the guidance used for the decision. Ask which costs in the quotation are included in the funding calculation and which remain outside it. A percentage applied to eligible costs is not necessarily the same percentage of the entire project invoice.
Build a payment timeline
For a budget example, a €20,000 project with an assumed €5,000 contribution still has a €20,000 gross price. The household may need to cover scheduled payments before receiving the contribution. Map deposit, progress payments, final invoice and expected support payment separately. Then compare the funds available at each stage. This exposes a cash-flow gap that a simple “net cost €15,000” headline can hide.
Keep technical changes connected to the application
If the installer changes the equipment or scope, ask whether the funding documents need updating before accepting the revision. Keep the original quote, revised specification and programme correspondence together. At completion, reconcile the invoice with the agreed work and collect the evidence needed for payment. Mark who submits each document and who follows up if the funding body requests more information.
Your planning checklist
- Applicable programme and applicant category identified.
- Eligible costs separated from the full installation price.
- Application, contract and work sequence checked against current terms.
- Payments, supporting documents and submission responsibilities mapped.
Common questions
Can I use a grant percentage from an older quotation?
Use the current product conditions applicable to your application. An earlier sales estimate may reflect different rules or household assumptions. Keep the programme decision and the installer’s pricing calculation separate.
What should I ask about the supply contract?
Ask which conditions and implementation dates the current KfW product requires. The official heating-support page describes a contract linked to the funding decision; ensure the proposed document follows the applicable sequence rather than treating signature timing as a minor detail.
