The short answer

Different technologies and renovation routes have different conditions. Establish your project’s eligibility before relying on support.

Describe the work precisely

An air-to-water heat pump, solar water heating and photovoltaic electricity are different projects. Do not assume an aid described as “solar” or “renewable” applies to all of them. Prepare a precise description of the works and whether they form part of a larger renovation.

Check the applicable route

France Rénov’ explains MaPrimeRénov’ and the energy-supplier support known as CEE. Ask its advisory service which route matches your property and circumstances, whether schemes can be combined and which professional qualifications matter. Use current conditions rather than a remembered grant amount.

Plan the sequence and cash flow

Confirm the required order of applications, acceptance, contract signing and work. Ask what evidence must be retained and when payment occurs. Keep the gross project cost and each confirmed contribution separate so an expected reimbursement is not confused with an immediate discount.

Take a complete project brief to the adviser

Prepare the property’s address and ownership details, the planned work, household information requested by the scheme and available quotes. Explain whether the aim is a single improvement or a wider renovation. Ask the adviser to identify the route and missing documents before comparing advertised net prices. Keep sensitive documents within the official application process or with an authorised professional who actually needs them.

Separate cost, support and payment timing

Use three columns: total project price, contributions whose conditions have been confirmed, and the amount still to fund. Then add a payment calendar. A contribution paid after completion does not automatically reduce the deposit or interim invoices. If one company quotes a net price, ask how it receives the aid, what you must still pay and what happens if the final approved amount differs.

Check how several contributions fit together

List each proposed source of support, its conditions, the work it applies to and who submits the request. Ask the France Rénov’ adviser about compatibility and any limits on the combined amount. Keep the offers and acceptance dates so the application sequence can be reconstructed. Review the file if the scope or contractor changes, rather than assuming the original funding calculation still applies unchanged.

Your planning checklist

  • Project route and eligible work identified with the adviser.
  • Applicant and property documents collected through the proper channels.
  • Each contribution, condition and payment date listed separately.
  • The sequence and any changes documented before commitment.

Common questions

Are photovoltaic panels and solar water heating funded alike?

They are different technologies and must be checked against the relevant scheme. A broad reference to solar energy in a sales offer is not enough to establish which work is eligible.

Is an installer’s aid estimate an approval?

No. An estimate helps prepare a budget; the relevant scheme determines the application. Ask what remains to be verified and keep the gross price visible until the funding position is clear.

A practical next step

Take your property details and a description of the proposed works to a France Rénov’ adviser before accepting a funding-led sales proposal.
